Bolt is intended for member-facing applications built in conjunction with UX-provided designs. For internal sites, using Bolt for full compliance with brand standards isn't necessary. Instead, these applications may be considered to be brand-adjacent: use of Nationwide's standard colors, typography, and icons will make them feel more familiar, but they can be built more flexibly. For these applications, we encourage development teams to use whatever front-end framework allows them to be most productive, as Bolt is not intended to replace every component of an all-purpose framework.

If you'd like to use Bolt's design tokens to make a brand-adjacent web application using an off-the-shelf front end framework, such as Material or Bootstrap, we recommend partnering with UX to build and maintain a Bolt adapter project. A Bolt adapter is a community-maintained theme for your framework of choice that imports Bolt's design tokens and assigns them to the theme's configurable values, e.g. by using Nationwide's brand standard blue for buttons, or red for errors.
