Bolt 7.0.0

Release date: 5/15/2025

The final production release of Bolt 7 is functionally the same as the release candidate that preceded it. Consumers who have already upgraded using the release candidate should not need to make any further changes to their code (beyond bumping the version itself).

Bolt 7.0.0-rc.1

Release date: 4/29/2025

This release candidate contains all of the planned changes for Bolt 7.

This version may be considered stable enough for use in production, as long as teams follow the migration guide and verify applications look as expected before deploying.

A final production release of Bolt 7 will be available by mid May, as soon as we:

Finalize documentation for new features, such as contextual theming tokens
Complete a final check of all component styles
Address any feedback from consumers, if necessary

Bolt 7.0.0-alpha.2

Release date: 3/11/2025

This pre-release contains additional API deprecations, specifically affecting theme tokens.

For Bolt 7, this should not be a breaking change, but the older theme tokens are likely to be fully removed in a later major release of Bolt. Teams may wish to address Bolt 7 deprecations now, or during a future upgrade cycle, depending on their bandwidth.

Teams will need to update any affected theme token usage before they can make use of Bolt's upcoming dark mode and contextual theming capabilities.

This pre-release contains all API-breaking changes that are anticipated for Bolt 7. The remaining work planned for Bolt 7 contains visual appearance updates and new features, which are unlikely to require changes on the part of the consuming application in order to upgrade.

Consumers may reference the migration guide alongside this pre-release to begin working towards a Bolt 7 upgrade.

Noteworthy Information

As of 4.1.0, the default appearance for most Bolt assets have been updated to use rebrand styles. Our goal is to streamline the process of aligning with the new Nationwide brand, while also minimizing changes that could be considered 'breaking'.

In keeping with this philosophy:

Changes that could be breaking for layouts, such as font size, are not included.
Non-default appearances, such as buttons that have been customized to use a specific color option, still use the same color from the legacy brand palette.
